A Portable Hammock Lets You Relax Wherever You Want
July 11th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedYou need a portable hammock. Yes, you.
I tell everybody I know: lying in a hammock is the most relaxing and addictive joy. Just set it up between your favorite trees or in a hammock stand, lie down, and unwind.
But what if you’re traveling and don’t have trees nearby? Perhaps you’d like to enjoy your hammock at the beach, or while tailgating at the big game; or on a picnic. You can use a portable hammock and enjoy all the comforts of your regular hammock away from home.
While camping hammocks and hike hammocks are indeed portable, there’s a difference between these hammocks and a truly portable hammock. portable hammocks are completely self-contained, meaning they come complete with a stand – no worries about suitable trees. The portable hammock’s stand folds for storage. So you can easily pack it up and take it to the beach or anywhere else with you.
The beauty of a portable hammock is that you can take it anywhere you go - to the beach, to your lake house, or when you go camping. The newer portable hammock versions are very easy to use. They fold nicely, and tuck up quite compactly in your car or in your truck.
With portable hammocks, there’s really no excuse for denying yourself any longer. You can enjoy the hammock’s renowned comfort wherever your travels take you.

If you go hiking and camping, there’s no reason not to take a camping hammock with you.
There are lightweight camping hammocks designed to pack and store easily. Now you can make your backpacking trip even more relaxing by bringing a hammock along.
A camping hammock is similar to a regular hammock in basic design. Most don’t come with hammock stands, which contributes to their portability; but there are a few that do. You can use them for relaxing or sleeping. A camping hammock has got to be the ultimate for sleeping in the outdoors.
If you are interested in camping hammocks, there are some safety precautions that you should take. First of all, be sure that the hammock you choose is well made. If it’s poor quality construction, you certainly won’t enjoy relaxing or sleeping in it. And you sure don’t want it to break and fall with you….
Especially if you’re going backpacking in rough terrain, a nylon material is best for durability and moisture resistance. A rain cover for your hammock can be handy if you will be sleeping in the elements. And mosquito netting, for me at least, is a must! Yes, there are hammocks available with these options. Light weight is also important; you don’t want to be overburdened while hiking. You might consider an ultralight hammock or hike hammock for your pack. For the ultimate in comfort, try a hammock tent.
Next, be aware of your campsite’s setting and resources. A hammock is usually meant to be suspended between two supports. If you don’t travel with a portable hammock stand, be sure that you will have available two sturdy trees or other supports in close proximity to hang the hammock.
Suspend the camping hammock high enough off of the ground to avoid damage to the material and/or injury to you. Be sure that you secure the hammock to the trees tightly. Your camping hammock should come with directions as well as a diagram that will allow you to properly complete the installation. You may want to use hammock tree straps to minimize damage to trees when hanging the camping hammock.
