Hammocks overlooking Boothbay Harbor, Maine.Image via WikipediaIf you’re looking to remake your yard, researching on the ‘net should provide you with lots of great landscaping ideas. With hammocks as a part of the plan you can create something that not only adds to your yard’s beauty, but enhances your personal health and well being by providing a safe and peaceful place to relax.

Hammocks in Landscaping

If you want to brainstorm on landscaping ideas with hammocks, the first thing you might want to consider is what a hammock does, what’s its function. A hammock is meant for relaxation, pure and simple.  Hung between two trees or on a stand, it generally is placed in a quiet, shady area away from the bustle and noise of the street.  You might even choose to distance it from the clamor and din of your family.

Successful landscaping ideas with hammocks embrace using the hammock in a way that reflects its nature and usage. You’ll want to locate the hammock in a place that is easy to access and use and easy to relax in.  Perhaps there’s soft grass, mulch or even pea gravel providing a “floor” for the outdoor space.  You could incorporate flowering trees or bushes, shade plants and small evergreens to accent and enhance the area. Plants that provide scent may add to the relaxing atmosphere.  To provide aural interest, wind chimes might be hung nearby.  Or perhaps a small garden fountain or water feature can provide soothing water sounds.  If your climate permits, you can think about plants that provide year-round interest.  When using hammocks in landscaping, the point is to create a place, an outdoor room where you feel comfortable relaxing completely in, with no cares or worries.

If you are concerned with insect pests, you can place some citronella candles or torches around where your hammock is going to be.  You may find that you are better able to relax.  The soft light is relaxing in and of itself.

There are many more good landscaping ideas with hammocks.  Hopefully we’ve been able to provide you with a few starting points for successfully using hammocks in landscaping.
